One of the great gifts of the Episcopal Church is that we are formed and sustained through communal worship, prayer, fellowship, and service. A sense of community, however, does not simply happen on its own—it is something we intentionally build through everyday acts of welcome, participation, and care for one another.
Often, the smallest gestures have the greatest impact. Wearing a name tag may seem insignificant, but it can make a powerful difference for visitors, newer members, longtime parishioners, and staff alike. A name tag lowers barriers, sparks conversation, and communicates a simple but profound message: you belong here. When we make it easier to know one another by name, we strengthen the relationships that turn St. Paul’s church into a spiritual home.
The same spirit of welcome comes alive when we greet someone new. Many of us remember how it felt to walk into an unfamiliar church for the first time. A warm smile, a brief introduction, or an invitation to coffee hour can transform that experience from awkward to welcoming. Hospitality is a shared ministry with each of us being called to reflect Christ’s love for all people.
Our sense of community deepens when we move beyond attendance to participation. St. Paul’s offers many opportunities to serve, including worship ministries, music, Christian formation, youth ministry, pastoral care, hospitality, fellowship, and outreach. Such opportunities allow us to grow in faith while forming meaningful connections that strengthen both ourselves and our parish as a whole.
