In a world that often feels hurried and disconnected, it is easy to underestimate the impact of a simple greeting, yet one small word, “hello,” has the power to brighten a day, open a conversation, and remind someone that they are seen and valued.
Jesus demonstrated the importance of noticing people. Throughout his ministry, he stopped to speak with those whom others overlooked. He welcomed the outsider, comforted the hurting, and made room for everyone to experience God’s love. As Christians, we are called to do the same.
When people walk through the doors of St. Paul’s, they bring with them a variety of experiences. Some arrive filled with joy and gratitude, while others may be carrying burdens, loneliness, or uncertainty. We may not know their stories, but we can offer something meaningful—a warm and genuine welcome.

A friendly “hello” may seem insignificant, but it can make a lasting difference. For a first-time visitor, it can ease anxiety and create a sense of belonging. For a longtime member, it reinforces the bonds of Christian fellowship. For someone going through a difficult season, it can be a reminder that they are not alone.
The beauty of a greeting is that it requires very little effort but can have an enormous impact. A smile, a handshake, a kind word, or a brief conversation can reflect the love and hospitality of Christ in a practical way.
As we begin a new program year, I challenge you to be intentional about reaching out to those around you. Take a moment to introduce yourself to someone new. Speak to a person sitting alone. Offer a sincere “hello” to those you pass in the hallway or parking lot.
You never know how God will use that simple greeting to encourage a heart, build a friendship, or strengthen our church family. Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness become the greatest blessings.
