The Eve of the Feast of the Transfiguration

Date & Time:

August 5, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm

Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Eve of the Feast of the Transfiguration. The Associate Rector, Mo Major, will preach.

This feast remembers the moment when Jesus was revealed in glory before Peter, James, and John on the holy mountain. More than a private spiritual experience, the Transfiguration stands among the great manifestations of Jesus’ divine identity, alongside the angelic announcements at his birth and resurrection and the descent of the Spirit at his baptism.

As the disciples looked on, the veil was briefly lifted, and they saw Jesus radiant in divine light, speaking with Moses and Elijah—signs that he is the fulfillment of both the Law and the Prophets. A cloud of divine presence overshadowed them, and a heavenly voice declared, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him.” Immediately after this revelation, Jesus foretold his suffering and death, reminding his followers that the glory they glimpsed could not be separated from the path of the cross.

In the Transfiguration, the Church perceives a foreshadowing of the risen and ascended Christ, a vision held in highest esteem in the Eastern tradition and now widely celebrated across Anglicanism. It is a promise that beyond the disquiet of this world, the faithful shall behold the King in his beauty.
