SUMMARY:The Eve of the Feast of Saint Barnabas
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the eve of the Feast of Saint Barnabas the Apostle. The Rector\, T.J. Freeman\, will preach and preside. \nThe Feast of St. Barnabas honors one of the earliest followers of Christ and a key figure in the spread of the gospel. A Levite from Cyprus\, Barnabas—whose name means “son of encouragement”—was known for his generosity and faith. He first appears in Acts as one who sold his land and gave the proceeds to the apostles\, and later as the trusted disciple who welcomed Paul after his dramatic conversion\, introducing him to the hesitant church in Jerusalem. \nBarnabas and Paul became partners in ministry\, serving the growing Christian community in Antioch\, bringing relief to Jerusalem during famine\, and embarking together on the first great missionary journey. Their preaching was so powerful that the people of Lystra mistook them for gods\, calling Barnabas “Jupiter” for his commanding presence. Though Barnabas and Paul eventually parted ways over a disagreement about Mark\, both continued their evangelizing work—Barnabas returning to Cyprus\, where tradition says he founded the church and was later martyred. Remembered for his generosity\, courage\, and encouragement of others\, Barnabas embodies the spirit of one who sought not his own fame\, but the flourishing of Christ’s church.

SUMMARY:The Feast of the Visitation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Assistant Rector\, Patricia Rose\, will preside and preach. \nThe Feast of the Visitation commemorates Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth as told in the Gospel of Luke. Bearing the unborn Christ\, Mary journeyed to the hill country to share in Elizabeth’s joy\, for Elizabeth too was expecting a son—John the Baptist. When Mary greeted her\, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out\, “Blessed are you among women\, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” In that moment\, the child in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy\, recognizing the nearness of the Savior. Mary responded with her song of praise\, the Magnificat\, proclaiming God’s mercy and the lifting up of the humble. \nThe Visitation reveals the meeting of the old and new covenants\, of prophecy and fulfillment\, and of two faithful women whose openness to God made way for salvation’s unfolding. The feast invites the faithful to share Mary’s joy\, her humility\, and her readiness to bear Christ into the world through lives of gratitude and service.

SUMMARY:The Feast of the Ascension
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of the Ascension. Choristers will sing and that there will be a small reception afterwards. The Rector\, T.J. Freeman\, will preach.  \nThe Feast of the Ascension celebrates Christ’s final moments on earth\, his ascension into heaven\, and the promise of the Holy Spirit. Through scripture we learn of the fulfillment of the law of Moses\, the prophets\, and the psalms; everything written about Christ was elucidated to his apostles in his final days. Jesus instructed his disciples to stay in Jerusalem until the arrival of the Spirit\, to then proclaim the repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations in his name.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saints Philip and James
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on The Eve of The Feast of the Apostles\, Saint Philip and Saint James. The Rector\, T.J. Freeman\, will preach. \nThe Feast of Saints Philip and James honors two apostles of Jesus about whom the Scriptures tell us little\, yet whose faith and witness endure in the life of the Church. \nJames\, called “the Less” to distinguish him from James the son of Zebedee\, is identified as the son of Alpheus. He may also be the “James the younger” who\, with Jesus’s mother Mary\, watched the crucifixion from afar. \nPhilip appears more vividly in the Gospel of John\, where Jesus calls him soon after Andrew and Peter. Eager to share the good news\, Philip brings his friend Nathanael to meet Jesus. His practical\, questioning nature surfaces again when he wonders how to feed the vast crowd\, only to see Jesus multiply the loaves and fishes. Philip later asks\, “Lord\, show us the Father\,” prompting Jesus’ profound reply\, “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” \nThough their later lives are largely hidden from history\, both apostles are remembered for their simple faithfulness—the readiness to follow\, to ask\, to trust\, and to proclaim the truth of Christ.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saint Mark the Evangelist
DESCRIPTION:On April 25\, the Feast of Saint Mark the Evangelist\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Rector\, T.J. Freeman\, will preach. \nThe Feast of St. Mark the Evangelist honors the author of the second Gospel and one of the earliest witnesses to the life and ministry of Jesus. The New Testament mentions a disciple named Mark several times—likely the same person who was the cousin of Barnabas and the son of a woman whose house in Jerusalem served as a meeting place for the first Christians. Tradition suggests he may even have been the young man who fled from Gethsemane on the night of Jesus’ arrest. \nMark accompanied Paul and Barnabas on their missionary journey but turned back early\, causing a brief rift with Paul. In time\, however\, reconciliation came\, and Mark became a trusted companion of both Paul and Peter—whom Peter affectionately called “my son.” \nEarly Christian tradition\, preserved by Papias\, identifies Mark as the evangelist who recorded Peter’s memories and teachings in his Gospel. The Church of Alexandria venerates him as its first bishop and martyr\, and the great basilica of St. Mark in Venice bears witness to his enduring legacy. Mark’s life—marked by failure\, growth\, reconciliation\, and steadfast witness—reflects the transforming power of God’s grace and the call to proclaim Christ faithfully in every generation.

SUMMARY:Women’s Night Out
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly invited to a special Women’s Night Out—an evening of worship\, fellowship\, and meaningful connection. \nWe will begin at 6 p.m. in St. Martin’s Chapel as we celebrate The Feast of the Annunciation\, gathering in prayer and reflection on Mary’s faithful and open-hearted “yes.” \nFollowing the service\, we will continue the evening at The Fairmount for socializing and fellowship. Over substantial small plates\, we’ll enjoy time to reconnect\, relax\, and deepen friendships (registration is $35\, cash bar will be available). \nOur fellowship will also include a simple but heartfelt service project: writing notes of comfort and encouragement to women staying in shelters or participating in transition programs throughout our greater community—women who need to be reminded that they are seen\, valued\, and worthy. \nLet’s enjoy a meaningful evening of faith\, friendship\, and loving service! We hope you will join us. \nRegister online

SUMMARY:The Feast of the Annunciation
DESCRIPTION:On March 25\, the Feast of the Annunciation\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Feast of the Annunciation commemorates the moment when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would bear God’s Son. This encounter marks the beginning of the Incarnation—God taking flesh in the world. \nHer response to God’s call\, “Let it be to me according to your word\,” reveals a faith that unites trust and understanding. On this day\, the church joins together to gives thanks for Mary’s witness and for the mystery of God’s grace made manifest in her willing heart. In her honor\, let us reaffirm the Baptismal Prayer\, “Give them an inquiring and discerning heart\, the courage to will and to persevere\, a spirit to know and to love you\, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works.”

SUMMARY:The Eve of St. Joseph
DESCRIPTION:On March 18\, the Eve of St. Joseph\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. We will gather to honor Joseph’s example of righteousness\, compassion\, and steadfast devotion. \nThe Feast of St. Joseph honors the man chosen by God to be the guardian of Jesus and the husband of Mary. Known as “Joseph the Carpenter\,” he is revered as the patron saint of workers and families\, embodying the dignity of labor and the holiness of daily life. Though the Gospels tell us little about him\, Joseph’s example of righteousness\, compassion\, and steadfast devotion has inspired generations of Christians to trust in God’s will and to serve faithfully in the quiet tasks of love and duty. Sally Wilson will preach and Patricia Rose\, Assistant Rector\, will preside.
