SUMMARY:GCC Get Out the Vote
DESCRIPTION:Make a difference in voter turnout with Greater Cleveland Congregations\n\nSt. Paul’s is joining with Beth El The Heights Synagogue and Forest Hill Presbyterian Church to co-sponsor a GCC Get Out the Vote Canvass & Calls to Cleveland Heights Voters. \nSunday\, October 18 – 1 to 5 p.m.\, staging at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church \nWe will be talking with neighbors in our community\, people who are registered (low propensity voters)\, to encourage them to vote in the November election. Last year\, GCC’s time-tested\, relational\, deep canvassing approach increased voter turnout by 16% in five Cleveland neighborhoods! It works! \nWhile we hope for a strong turnout to canvass\, we know not everyone who wants to do something this election wants to knock on doors. We will also have call lists available to expand our outreach to voters. Callers will need to bring a cell phone. \nA light lunch and a short training will be provided. We will have scripts for callers and canvassers\, and canvassers will have the GCC Voter Guide to share with our neighbors. \nAs a co-sponsor of this event\, we hope for a strong St. Paul’s turnout. Families and all ages are welcome\, so let’s do this! To say YES\, count me in\, email Julie Micheletti (MichelettiJulie@Gmail.com) or sign up on a Sunday morning. Be sure to let us know if you will canvass or call.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saint Luke
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. \nSt. Luke was a physician and companion of Paul in the early missionary journeys of the church. Tradition credits him as the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles\, written in Greek so that Gentiles might come to know the story of Jesus. \nLuke’s Gospel alone records treasured stories such as the annunciation to Mary\, the visit to Elizabeth\, the birth of Jesus in the manger\, the angels appearing to shepherds\, and Simeon’s blessing in the temple. He also includes parables and miracles not found elsewhere\, highlighting Christ’s compassion and healing power. Acts continues the story with the coming of the Holy Spirit\, the apostles’ witness in the face of persecution\, and the spread of the Good News. \nLuke is said to have remained with Paul until his death in Rome\, and though the details of his own death are uncertain\, tradition places it in Greece. Honored as the patron saint of physicians and artists\, Luke is also remembered in Orthodox tradition as the first iconographer\, bearing witness in word and image to the love of Christ.

SUMMARY:Further Up Further In
DESCRIPTION:Further Up Further In: Discernment Conversations with the Rector\nThe Rev’d T.J. Freeman is inviting all of us into an intentional period of discussion and discernment about our Sunday worship schedule\, specifically about the possibility of combining our 9 and 11:15 a.m. liturgies into one principal Sunday service. \nWe are better when we are together\, and at our current size\, we can comfortably gather as one. Father T.J. is urging us to consider consolidating in order to grow—in numbers and in every other way. \nThis is genuine discernment\, and the outcome is not predetermined. The Vestry and the Rector will send an update in December. Change can be hard\, but we have the chance to change from a position of strength. As C.S. Lewis wrote\, “Come further up\, come further in.” We are grateful to be on this journey with you. \nNo RSVP required—join us when you are available. All meetings will be held at the church.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saint James of Jerusalem
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of Saint James of Jerusalem: Brother of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Martyr. \nSt. James of Jerusalem is known in scripture as the Lord’s brother—though tradition variously describes him as brother\, half-brother\, or cousin of Jesus. Converted after the resurrection\, James became the first Bishop of Jerusalem and a key leader in the early church. \nPaul notes that James was granted a special appearance of the risen Christ\, and at the Council of Jerusalem he helped guide the church toward welcoming Gentile converts without imposing the full weight of Jewish law. Known as “James the Just\,” he lived a life of prayer\, simplicity\, and holiness\, and was deeply revered for his intercession on behalf of his people. His bold witness to Jesus as Messiah\, however\, provoked opposition\, and according to tradition he was thrown from the temple roof and beaten to death for his testimony. Honored as both apostle and martyr\, James is remembered for his wisdom\, his reconciling spirit\, and his steadfast faith unto death.
