SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED Power in Progress: Celebrating 15 Years of GCC
DESCRIPTION:We don’t wait for change: We make it together. \nThis joyful event will celebrate\, honor\, and hear wisdom from Greater Cleveland Congregations’ founding clergy: Pastor Jawanza Colvin (Olivet Baptist)\, Rabbi Josh Caruso (Congregation Mishkan Or)\, and Dean Tracey Lind (retired Dean of Trinity Cathedral). \nThese leaders will share what sparked their interest in GCC’s organizing model\, how and why they came together to create and build GCC in Cleveland\, their most powerful highlights and insights along the way\, and their vision for GCC’s future in this challenging time. Please RSVP online: https://tinyurl.com/may26-gcc \n  \n*If you need transportation to the event\, contact Julie Micheletti (MichelettiJulie@gmail.com). \n___________ \nSt. Paul’s has been a part of GCC since the beginning. We were part of all the good works accomplished over the past 15 years including the promotion and passage of two critical levies for CMSD\, Medicaid expansion\, creating the first Gun Safety Consortium\, offering COVID testing and vaccines in the city of Cleveland\, providing voter resources and encouraging voter engagement\, and supporting the opening of the first mental health and addiction Crisis Diversion Center in Cuyahoga County. We continue our work in healthcare\, criminal justice\, racial inequity and the improvement of Cleveland neighborhoods. \n

SUMMARY:The Great Vigil of Easter
DESCRIPTION:The liturgy intended as the first (and arguably\, the primary) celebration of Easter. It is also known as the Great Vigil. The service begins in darkness\, between sunset on Holy Saturday and sunrise on Easter\, and consists of four parts: \n\nThe Service of Light (kindling of new fire\, lighting the Paschal candle\, the Exsultet)\nThe Service of Lessons (readings from the Hebrew Scriptures interspersed with psalms\, canticles\, and prayers)\nChristian Initiation (Holy Baptism) or the Renewal of Baptismal Vows\nThe Eucharist\n\nThrough this liturgy\, we recover an ancient practice of keeping the Easter feast. Believers would gather in the hours of darkness ending at dawn on Easter to hear scripture and offer prayer. This night-long service of prayerful watching anticipated the baptisms that would come at first light and the Easter Eucharist.

SUMMARY:GCC Action for Pretrial Justice
DESCRIPTION:Cleveland Municipal Court Candidate Forum\nElections have consequences- let’s use our influence for justice! “Off-year” elections (like the one on Tuesday\, November 4) don’t get as much attention\, but their outcomes have a huge impact on our local community. Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC) is hosting a forum to meet the candidates for Cleveland Municipal Court and push for changes to this powerful institution. \nGCC’s goal is to establish an effective centralized booking system which can more quickly process persons arrested for criminal offenses\, bring them before a judge\, and release them to await trial or establish a reasonable bond. \nAt least five candidates for judge will be present to share how they see this issue\, goals for their candidacy\, and what can be done to ensure justice for all. The Action will take place at Antioch Baptist Church with carpooling from St. Paul’s. Sign up to attend in the foyer between services!
