SUMMARY:An Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols
DESCRIPTION:As part of the quiet reflection and joyful expectation that the yearly observance of Advent brings\, this candlelit service of scripture\, hymns\, and anthems moves us from the creation story\, to prophecy\, to the coming of the Kingdom of God. The liturgy will be formed around the “O Antiphons\,” seven ancient antiphons that are the basis for “O come\, O come\, Emmanuel.” \nThe St. Paul’s Ringers begin at 4:45 p.m. Chants\, carols\, and hymns are sung by the Senior\, Youth\, St. Cecilia and St. David Choirs. Congregational hymns feature prominently throughout the liturgy. A carillon concert follows. A series of O Antiphon banners designed by Robyn Sand Anderson are processed at the singing of each Antiphon. The offering will benefit our non-profit community partners.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saint Andrew
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, November 30\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle. \nSt. Andrew\, is best known as the brother of Simon Peter\, yet he holds a distinct and important place among the apostles. Once a disciple of John the Baptist\, Andrew was among the first to follow Jesus after John proclaimed him as the Lamb of God. His immediate response was to bring his brother to Christ\, making Andrew the first missionary in the circle of disciples. \nThough not part of Jesus’ inner three—Peter\, James\, and John—Andrew appears in key moments\, including when he brought the boy with the loaves and fishes to Jesus at the feeding of the multitude. The Gospels portray him as one eager to connect others to Christ. While little is known about his later ministry\, early tradition claims he preached in Scythia and was martyred on an X-shaped cross. Honored as the patron saint of Scotland\, Andrew is remembered as one who quietly but faithfully led others to the Lord.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of the Epiphany. \nOn this holy feast of the Epiphany\, we remember the God who\, by the leading of a star\, made known his Son to the peoples of the earth. Like the Magi\, we are led by light to seek the glory of Christ\, revealed in humility and love. \nWe’ll mark the arrival of the magi with the ancient Epiphany custom of the “chalking of the doors” and a service of the Holy Eucharist\, followed by a dessert reception featuring cake and toasting with champagne and sparkling grape juice. “Chalking the doors” is a ritual to ask God’s blessing on our homes and lives. We’ll send everyone home with chalk and special prayers to observe this custom in their own homes.

SUMMARY:The Feast of The Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of The Presentation of Our Lord. \nThis feast recalls the moment when Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem\, offering him to the Lord in keeping with the law that every firstborn son be dedicated to God. \nAlso known as the Purification of Saint Mary the Virgin\, the Meeting of Christ with Simeon\, or Candlemas\, the feast reveals the rich layers of meaning Christians have found in this event. When Simeon received the child in his arms\, the old covenant met the new: the age of sacrifice and offering gave way to the perfect self-offering of God’s own Son. \nSimeon’s song\, the Nunc dimittis\, proclaims the light of salvation for all people—a light symbolized by the blessing of candles traditionally observed on this day. Simeon is not alone in recognizing the Messiah in his midst; Anna\, a prophet of great age who worshipped at the temple night and day with fasting and prayer\, offered testimony on the infant’s behalf: that this child would be a sign for the redemption of Jerusalem. The Presentation reminds the faithful that Christ\, the light of the world\, has entered the temple of humanity\, and invites them to offer their own hearts and lives in gratitude and purity before God.

Scripture portrays Joseph as a man of quiet strength\, deep faith\, and tender obedience—one who\, even when faced with confusion and distress\, trusted in God’s guidance and accepted his vocation with humility. He protected Mary and the infant Jesus\, leading them to safety in Egypt\, and raised Jesus in Nazareth as a faithful Jew and skilled craftsman. \nKnown as “Joseph the Carpenter\,” he is revered as the patron saint of workers and families\, embodying the dignity of labor and the holiness of daily life. Though the Gospels tell us little about him\, Joseph’s example of righteousness\, compassion\, and steadfast devotion has inspired generations of Christians to trust in God’s will and to serve faithfully in the quiet tasks of love and duty.

SUMMARY:The Feast of Saints Philip and James
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 1\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on The Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James\, Apostles. \nThe Feast of Saints Philip and James honors two apostles of Jesus about whom the Scriptures tell us little\, yet whose faith and witness endure in the life of the Church. \nJames\, called “the Less” to distinguish him from James the son of Zebedee\, is identified as the son of Alpheus. He may also be the “James the younger” who\, with Jesus’s mother Mary\, watched the crucifixion from afar. \nPhilip appears more vividly in the Gospel of John\, where Jesus calls him soon after Andrew and Peter. Eager to share the good news\, Philip brings his friend Nathanael to meet Jesus. His practical\, questioning nature surfaces again when he wonders how to feed the vast crowd\, only to see Jesus multiply the loaves and fishes. Philip later asks\, “Lord\, show us the Father\,” prompting Jesus’ profound reply\, “He who has seen me has seen the Father.” \nThough their later lives are largely hidden from history\, both apostles are remembered for their simple faithfulness—the readiness to follow\, to ask\, to trust\, and to proclaim the truth of Christ.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, May 31\, join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. \nThe Feast of the Visitation commemorates Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth as told in the Gospel of Luke. Bearing the unborn Christ\, Mary journeyed to the hill country to share in Elizabeth’s joy\, for Elizabeth too was expecting a son—John the Baptist. When Mary greeted her\, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out\, “Blessed are you among women\, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” In that moment\, the child in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy\, recognizing the nearness of the Savior. Mary responded with her song of praise\, the Magnificat\, proclaiming God’s mercy and the lifting up of the humble. \nThe Visitation reveals the meeting of the old and new covenants\, of prophecy and fulfillment\, and of two faithful women whose openness to God made way for salvation’s unfolding. The feast invites the faithful to share Mary’s joy\, her humility\, and her readiness to bear Christ into the world through lives of gratitude and service.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, June 24\, Join us for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist on the Feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. \nThis feast honors the miraculous birth of the prophet who prepared the way for the Lord. The son of Zechariah and Elizabeth\, John was born to elderly parents through God’s promise and is described in Luke’s Gospel as a relative of Jesus\, arriving six months before him. When Zechariah doubted the angel’s message announcing John’s conception\, he was struck speechless until the child’s birth\, when his voice returned in the canticle of praise known as the Benedictus. \nJohn grew up to live an austere life in the wilderness\, clothed in camel’s hair and sustained by locusts and wild honey. His preaching called the people to repentance and renewal in preparation for the coming of the Messiah\, and his baptism of Jesus in the Jordan marked the beginning of Christ’s public ministry. \nThe Gospels remember him as both prophet and forerunner\, who pointed beyond himself to the One who was to come\, declaring\, “He must increase\, but I must decrease.” John’s feast celebrates his courage\, humility\, and faithfulness\, inviting the church to follow his example in proclaiming the truth and preparing hearts for Christ.
